Why Weed Community Helpers?

The concept of “community helpers” has been in existence for as long as people have been lending a helping hand to others.  Firefighters, police officers, ambulance drivers, teachers, sanitation workers and other community personnel have worked to serve the communities in which they live. The primary purpose of these jobs has not changed a great deal over time; however, the roles, training requirements, and individual duties have changed dramatically. Technology and modernized equipment have impacted these career areas and must be looked at carefully when determining the relevance of titles in a library collection.  Gender, race, and ethnic biases often exist in older titles. Out-dated information and irrelevant photographic examples can be common.  Regular weeding of this subject area is necessary and important in order to provide the most current and accurate information for library patrons.
